Coaching Process Explained, Part 1: Premise
Premise: The Soil Beneath Your Life
Every life is built on something unseen.
Just like a tree.
You don’t see the roots.
You see the fruit.
But the fruit is never the problem.
The soil is.
In coaching, we start with Premise — your foundational beliefs. The invisible truths you carry about love, money, health, success, yourself.
If someone believes:
“Love ends in pain.”
They don’t consciously choose bad relationships.
Their roots do.
If someone believes:
“I’m not disciplined.”
They don’t fail at fitness.
Their soil rejects consistency.
Beliefs guide behavior.
Behavior creates results.
Results reinforce beliefs.
That’s the loop.
In your PVPS process, Premise is where we dig.
We uncover:
What do you believe about relationships?
What do you believe about your body?
What do you believe about your worth?
And more importantly…
Are those beliefs building you — or burying you?
You’ve lived both sides of this in love.
Old belief: Love equals suffering.
New belief: Love is healing and transformative.
The moment the soil changed…
Everything else became possible.
Coaching is not about motivation.
It’s about excavation.
Because when the soil becomes fertile,
The tree doesn’t have to try harder to grow.
It just does.
Question to reflect on:
What belief is quietly running your life right now?
