The Biggest Change I’ve Seen in Myself This Past Year
The biggest change I’ve seen in myself over the last year isn’t physical.
It’s the order in which I take care of myself.
For years, the gym came first.
Training was the foundation. Everything else came after.
Yoga was a bonus. Meditation was something I might do when I had the time—or when I felt like I needed it.
That has completely changed.
Now, meditation comes first. Then yoga. Then the gym.
And the difference has been profound.
I’ve realised that there is very little value in building a strong body while neglecting the mind that lives inside it.
You can be physically fit, strong and disciplined—and still feel lost, overwhelmed, disconnected or exhausted.
For a long time, I treated my physical health as the priority and my mental health as something I could work on alongside it.
Now I see it differently.
My mental health is my priority.
Meditation gives me space before I react.
Yoga helps me reconnect with my body rather than constantly pushing it.
And the gym is still incredibly important—but it has become part of a bigger picture.
I’m no longer training simply to become stronger.
I’m training because I want to live better.
That distinction matters.
The goal isn’t to escape discomfort by constantly doing more.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is stop.
Breathe.
Sit quietly.
Listen to what is actually happening inside you.
Then move.
Then train.
Then work.
Then build.
Because when your mind is in a better place, everything else starts to become more intentional.
You don’t just become stronger.
You become clearer.
You become more present.
You begin making decisions from a place of choice rather than reaction.
And perhaps most importantly, you start understanding that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it is the foundation from which everything else in your life is built.
The gym still matters to me.
Yoga still matters.
But now I understand the order.
Calm the mind.
Connect with the body.
Then build the body.
That has been one of the biggest changes I’ve experienced this past year.
And I think it may be one of the most important.
