You Were Never Less Than

Your self-worth never changes throughout the course of your life.

Because your inherent value—the value of who you are—is innate.

It was never something you had to earn.

It was never something someone else could give you.

And it was never something another person could take away.

What changes is your story about yourself.

The story you began writing when you were young.

The moments you interpreted as rejection.
The relationships that made you question yourself.
The failures you decided meant you weren’t enough.
The comparisons that convinced you someone else was better.
The experiences that taught you to hide certain parts of yourself.

Eventually, the story becomes so familiar that you mistake it for the truth.

But it isn’t the truth.

It’s a story.

And perhaps the most beautiful possibility is this:

You are something far greater than the story you’ve been telling yourself.

You have simply been masquerading as a human being who feels somehow less than.

You put on the mask.

Then you wore it for so long that you forgot you were wearing it.

You forgot who you were underneath it.

And maybe that’s where the work begins.

Not by becoming someone new.

But by remembering.

I’m not here to give you self-worth.

You already have it.

I’m not here to make you extraordinary.

You already are.

I’m not here to fix you.

You are not broken.

Perhaps my role is simply to hold up a mirror—to help you see what is standing between you and the realization of who you already are.

And for that, I’m grateful that you trust me enough to walk beside you.

But don’t give me the credit.

It’s not me.

It’s you.

Everything you are searching for is already sitting in the chair with you.

The confidence.

The worth.

The strength.

The capacity to love.

The possibility of peace.

The person you’ve been trying so desperately to become.

Already here.

The question isn’t:

“How do I become worthy?”

The deeper question is:

“To what degree am I willing to fully accept myself?”

Because self-love isn’t pretending that everything about you is perfect.

It’s making peace with the whole of you.

The parts you’re proud of.

The parts you’re ashamed of.

The mistakes.

The scars.

The contradictions.

The past.

The things you wish you had done differently.

The things you are still learning.

You stop fighting yourself.

And something extraordinary happens.

The shackles begin to fall away.

Because when you are finally okay with being you, you no longer need the world to constantly reassure you that you’re enough.

You stop performing.

You stop proving.

You stop chasing.

You stop abandoning yourself in the hope that someone else will choose you.

And slowly, quietly…

you come home to yourself.

That is the work.

Not becoming more worthy.

Not becoming more lovable.

Not becoming someone else’s idea of who you should be.

Remembering.

Remembering that underneath all the stories, identities, expectations and masks, there has always been something untouched.

Something whole.

Something worthy.

Something extraordinary.

You.

And perhaps true self-worth isn’t something you discover.

Perhaps it’s something you finally stop arguing with.

Because you were never less than.

You only forgot.

And I’m here to remind you.
