Underneath the Uncertainty, You Know What You Want

Underneath the uncertainty,
underneath the doubt,
underneath the confusion,
underneath the fear…

You know what you want.

You probably do.

The problem is not always that you don’t know.

Sometimes, you know exactly what you want — but you’re afraid of what it might mean if you admit it.

Because knowing what you want can be uncomfortable.

It might mean making a difficult decision.

Leaving something behind.

Having a conversation you’ve been avoiding.

Taking a risk.

Changing direction.

Disappointing someone.

Or finally admitting that the life you’re living isn’t quite the life you want anymore.

So we create noise.

We analyse.

We ask everyone else what they think.

We make lists.

We look for certainty.

We wait for the perfect moment.

We tell ourselves we need more information.

And sometimes we confuse thinking with clarity.

But clarity doesn’t always arrive through more thinking.

Sometimes it arrives when you become quiet enough to hear yourself.

That small voice underneath everything.

The one that says:

“This is what I want.”

Maybe you’ve known for months.

Maybe you’ve known for years.

Maybe you’ve felt it every time your stomach tightened when you ignored it.

Every time you felt that spark of excitement imagining another possibility.

Every time you said, “One day.”

Every time you felt jealous of someone else’s life — not because you wanted their life, but because they were living something you secretly wanted for yourself.

Your fear doesn’t necessarily mean you’re on the wrong path.

Sometimes fear is simply the price of moving towards something that matters.

And doubt doesn’t necessarily mean you should stop.

Sometimes doubt is what happens when the familiar version of you meets a future version of you.

So perhaps the question isn’t:

“What should I do?”

Perhaps it’s:

“If I wasn’t afraid, what would I choose?”

And then:

“What do I already know?”

Don’t rush to answer.

Sit with it.

Take a breath.

Put down the phone.

Go for a walk.

Let the noise settle.

Because underneath the opinions, expectations, fears and stories you’ve collected along the way…

there may already be an answer.

You don’t need to create it.

You may simply need to stop drowning it out.

Your clarity might not be missing.

It might just be underneath the noise.
